It was about one month ago when Diana Hart of Ohio thought about deactivating her her dog’s microchip registration. Not because she didn't care if Abby went missing. It was because, well, Abby had gone missing... TEN YEARS AGO. And the pup had never returned.

As you can imagine, it was a complete shock when Diana got a call just a few weeks later from the Montgomery County Animal Resource Center telling her that they had Abby. The news was so shocking, it took Diana's breath away.

Apparently, a police officer in Dayton, Ohio had found Abby and turned her over to the shelter. They soon discovered her microchip and contacted Diana.

Montgomery County Animal Resource Center spokesperson Kara Hamby was present for the touching reunion. “Abby was super wiggly and excited to see her family after all that time,” Hamby says, “This is the kind of story that makes, you know, everything that we do worth it.”

Now 12-years-old and back home for the first time since she was a 2-year-old pup, Abby is learning to readjust to life with her owner.

Diana Hart isn’t sure where Abby was all those years, but she’s grateful to have her finally home!
