Lamont Landers Returns to The Bobby Bones Show — And This Time, He's Living the Dream He Talked About Last Visit

Lamont Landers is no stranger to The Bobby Bones Show, but this time around, he came back a completely different artist than the one who first walked through the studio doors.

Bobby didn't hold back his excitement, comparing Lamont's transformation to watching a caterpillar turn into a butterfly. And it's not just a figure of speech — in the time since his first appearance on the show, Lamont's career has taken off in ways he says still feel surreal.

From a TikTok Discovery to the Opry Stage

Bobby first found Lamont on TikTok and invited him to drive up and perform on the show. Since then, things have snowballed fast. Lamont recently performed at the legendary Grand Ole Opry, where he got to sing alongside country icon Vince Gill.

The Opry moment carried extra weight for Lamont because of a personal connection: Vince Gill was the first concert his mom ever took him to as a kid. When Lamont mentioned that to Vince ahead of the performance, Vince told him to bring his mom along — and she ended up getting to spend time with Vince Gill while Lamont recorded background vocals for the show.

The Dave Cobb Phone Call That Changed Everything

Perhaps the biggest turning point in Lamont's recent rise traces back to his appearance on The Bobby Bones Show. Questlove — drummer for The Roots and bandleader for Jimmy Fallon's show — came across one of Lamont's covers and reposted it. That repost caught the attention of producer Dave Cobb, who reached out and ultimately signed Lamont to his label, Lucile Records.

Lamont admitted he almost couldn't believe the call was real, joking that it would've been heartbreaking if it had turned out to be a prank. Dave Cobb flew him and his manager out to Savannah, and Lamont says the experience changed his life.

A Band Ten Years in the Making

While Lamont's success might look like an overnight glow-up, his band is anything but new. He's been playing with his guitarist for a decade, and the rest of his band members have been with him for years as well — everyone hailing from the same hometown of Decatur, Alabama.

Turning "You Don't Look Like That" Into His Biggest Strength

One of the most candid moments of the interview came when Bobby asked Lamont about people doubting whether he — a red-haired guy — could pull off soul, R&B, and country-leaning music. Lamont opened up about hating the way he looked as a kid, but says that perception ended up working in his favor: because expectations were so low walking in, clearing that bar became his biggest asset.

That theme comes full circle with Lamont's now-iconic Apollo Theater clip, where the crowd's initial skepticism turns to shock the moment he starts singing. Lamont pointed out that he and his band are among a small handful of artists — roughly 50 in history — to have performed at both the Apollo and the Grand Ole Opry.

What's Next for Lamont Landers

Lamont has a busy fall ahead. He's hitting the road in September for a run of southeast tour dates, including a performance at the Otis Redding Festival, where he'll perform Otis Redding songs for the Redding family — an honor he calls huge.

He's also got a new record on the way, with 10 songs already completed.
