Why Homemade Smoothies Aren’t The Same As A Restaurant’s

Smoothies are certainly a great source of minerals, vitamins, anti-oxidants and nutrients and they taste great, especially at your favorite smoothie shop or restaurant. One of my sons has recently discovered just how tasty they are. However, if you try to make your own at home like he has lately, they don’t always taste the same. Well, there's a reason as there are some secrets that the commercial places have up their sleeves that could benefit yours.

You need proper equipment – a good blender with multiple speeds is essential to get the right consistency. You don’t need to spend a fortune - Vitamix has a $250 Vitamix One model that will do the trick.

The Washington Post recommends adding the liquid first and add ingredients that include a good balance of protein, fruits like avocados or bananas, healthy fats and other supplements like spirulina.

Keep the addition of any greens to a maximum of 1 cup and then top it off with ice if you like and blend.
