Firefighters in Athens, Alabama had to perform an unusual rescue Thursday night when a woman decided to go for a swim.
A contractor had repainted a 70-foot tall city water tank last week and forgot to secure the hatch. A retired police officer saw a woman break into the fence, climb the tower, and jump into the 350k gallons of water inside.
Firefighters were able to convince the woman to come out of the tank and used a harness to get her out. No word on why the she decided the water tank was a good place for a swim, but she’s currently undergoing a mental evaluation.
The tank was drained that night so it could be sanitized.
