Alan Jackson Says Gary Stewart Inspired Songs On New Album

Alan Jackson's new album "Where Have You Gone" is 100% pure country music. I'm talking TWENTY big cuts of guitars (acoustic, electric, and steel) and fiddles and emotional lyrics. This is real good stuff, folks!

Now if you're like me, you love a good honky tonk song. And there was no one better at doing a real deal honky tonk record than Ft. Pierce's Gary Stewart. That's probably why he's referred to as the "King of the Honky Tonks." As luck would have it, Alan Jackson is a big fan, too, and says it was Gary who inspired a couple of songs on the new album. Namely, "Wishful Drinkin'" and "Way Down In My Whiskey."

Alan says, "I'm a big Gary Stewart fan. You know Gary from the 70's and 80's... I just loved his stuff. And when I started writing this, it sounded like one of his old songs. Well, somewhat. I don't think it's a good as one of his great ones. But I just really wanted to cut that because I felt like it sounded like a Gary Stewart song."
