The Tesla ‘Full Self-Driving Feature’ can drive a vehicle by itself, but you still must be buckled into the driver’s seat if you want to follow the law.
Param Sharma was arrested by the California Highway Patrol Monday when the officer saw his Tesla pass by with no one in the driver’s seat; the officer saw Sharma climb up into the driver’s seat from the back seat and stop the car.
He was charged with reckless driving and disobeying an officer, earning a night in jail. When he was released Tuesday, he went home…in the backseat of a friend’s Tesla with no one driving.
The best part? He told a television station that he has every intention of continuing to ride in the back seat, saying that by next year everyone will be doing it; it’s a safe bet he’ll ride in the back seat to his court appearance July 6, which should make the judge really happy.
