An Australian man says he survived a late-night fire because his pet bird woke him up and saved him.
Anton Nguyen was asleep in his home in Brisbane when he heard a bang and Eric, his parrot, started squawking. Thanks to the noisy pet, he got up and smelled smoke. “I grabbed Eric, opened the door and looked to the back of the house and saw some flames,” he explains. “And so I took off and bolted downstairs.
He was able to grab Eric and escape the blaze with the bird and a bag and neither of them got hurt. By the time firefighters were on the scene, the house was totally engulfed in flames. And even more impressive? The parrot started yelling Anton’s name before the smoke detectors went off.
