Over in Port Charlotte, near Ft. Myers, a 22-year-old named Bounty Cheramy was picked up by cops on August 30th and arrested for drunk driving after he slammed his Mazda into one of those electronic signs that authorities put up to remind drivers not to drink and drive.
The sign was displaying the warning: "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over."
Bounty told authorities that he was cruising along in his Mazda, talking on the phone, when he struck something. He told police that he was unsure "what he had struck or how he hit it."
On the scene, the officers said he smelled of alcohol and was leaning and swaying back and forth. The cops also noticed that he couldn't focus on any of the questions the deputy was asking.
He performed pretty badly on the field sobriety tests, He took two breath tests, both of which recorded his blood alcohol content at twice the .08 legal limit.
He was charged with a pair of DUI counts and careless driving. Thank goodness it was a sign he hit, and not a person.
