When Ben proposed to Erin, she knew she wanted their wedding cake to be made by the Publix bakery. That’s because growing up in Florida, every celebration had a Publix cake. The only problem? The New York couple was tying the knot in Minneapolis, where there are no Publix stores. A family member was going to bring one up to them from Florida, but when the pandemic hit, they had to come up with an alternate plan... and that’s when Publix stepped in to save the day.
When Publix heard about the couple’s situation, the chain reached out to see if they would want to do a wedding cake decorating session on a video call and they jumped at the chance! Brittany Lavallee, a professional decorator at Publix says, “We sent them a box with all the ingredients which included the buttercream icing, cake layers and decorative gum paste flowers from our headquarters in Lakeland.”
Publix also sent the couple a list of supplies they would need and then Brittany did the video call with them to help them create their DIY wedding cake.
