A 13-year-old Boy Scout is using his ingenuity to make a difference in his community. When Kaial Hajik found out about people drowning in the Gulf of Mexico near his hometown of Panama City Beach, Florida, he felt like he could do something to help. So he came up with a design and built a prototype for a device he calls the LifeBoKx - spelling it that way because the K stands for Kaial.
The box is a kit filled with life-saving equipment and it can be installed along the beach. Inside are lifevests, a lifesaver and CPR instructions. Each box would also have a location number to help first responders find people sooner. Kaial and his dad hope to present his LifeBoKx to their local Optimist Club, which works on community service projects, and then to the city council.
“It’s very simple, I would say, but it’s also very important in saving someone’s life,” the teen explains. “I wanted to let people know how to actually save people from those kinds of disasters like either currents or drownings.”
