When Amelia Corne graduates from high school this month as the valedictorian of the class of 2020, she’ll be the third member of her family to hold the title in the past seven years. Her sister Bethany was the first in the family to be top of her class in 2014 at Airport High School in Carleton, Michigan, and their brother Lane followed in 2016.
As for her path to success, Amelia says she’s a perfectionist, so earning all A’s was what she wanted to do and being valedictorian was “just a by-product of that.” While in high school, she sang in the choir, participated in youth government and finished 11 advanced placement courses, and will graduate with 30 college credits under her belt.
"All three of them are excellent students, obviously, but they are also extremely well rounded, which is even better," explains Airport High School principal Christopher Lukosavich. “One of the main reasons the Corne students were able to accomplish this amazing feat is because they wanted to accomplish it.”
