Forecasters are considering changing the start date to hurricane season. This comes as a low-pressure system nearing the Bahamas may become a tropical depression by tonight as it heads toward Southeast Florida.
This is the sixth consecutive year a storm has formed before June 1st, the official start of hurricane season. Now, forecasters are discussing the possibility of shifting the start date into May. Florida Weather Center meteorologist Dan Kottlowski says no matter when the start date is, people should always be prepared.
Kottlowski suggests messaging residents on how to prepare for an early hurricane season amid an ongoing pandemic. Kottlowski adds the coronavirus could have a major impact on evacuation routes and shelters this year.
