We all get food cravings from time to time, but it’s not usually kale or quinoa that call to us. No, instead of healthy foods, we tend to crave things that aren’t quite as nutritious. A study from Colorado State University looks into which foods are most likely to be addictive and it’s highly processed foods top the list.
The research even reveals that some of the most addictive foods share some of the same characteristics of “drugs of abuse” in the way they’re typically consumed and absorbed by the body. One thing all the addictive foods on their list have in common is that they’re high in fat and cause a spike in blood sugar.
This study also figured out what the least addictive food is and that honor goes to the cucumber. No big surprise there. And here are the top 10 most addictive foods, according to the study.
- Pizza
- Chocolate
- Chips
- Cookies
- Ice cream
- French Fries
- Cheeseburgers
- Full-sugar sodas
- Cake
- Cheese
