There are a lot of things people hate about going to the gym, but at one national chain's politics won’t be one of them.
The Life Time Fitness chain, which has 128 locations, just announced they are banning 24-hour cable news networks from TVs in all of their gyms due to their "consistently negative or politically charged content" because it doesn’t match the company's "healthy way of life philosophy."
According to a statement on their Twitter feed, "The decision to remove the national cable network news stations resulted from significant member feedback received over time and our commitment to provide family oriented environments free of consistently negative or politically charged content.” So from now on the chain won’t be airing CNN, Fox News Channel, MSNBC and CNBC and instead will stick to channels like USA, A&E, Discovery, HGTV, ESPN and local stations.
And while many people were in favor of the chain’s decision, some expressed disappointment. Others called it censorship. As one club member noted, “I often time my workout to a particular news program I enjoy to serve as an extra motivation for exercising.”
