A New Jersey mom of two decided to take her chances on a $1 scratch-off lottery ticket, but the clerk accidentally gave her a $10 “Set for Life” ticket by mistake. Oksana Zaharov felt bad, so she kept the wrong ticket, using it as a bookmark for a few weeks before scratching it off.
When the Edgewater woman finally did scratch it, she couldn’t believe her eyes. Zaharov won a $5-million prize on a ticket she didn’t even mean to buy. "I never win anything," she said. "I was sure the ticket was fake."
She’s planning to splurge on a big family getaway to the Bahamas and then let her children benefit from her winnings. “They’ll have a loan-free college education,” Zaharov says.
