Clearwater, FL - The family of professional wrestling legend Hulk Hogan has requested a formal investigation into whether medical malpractice played a role in his death.
Court documents filed in Pinellas County show that Hogan’s widow, Sky Daily, and his son, Nicholas Bollea, are seeking a 90-day extension of the statute of limitations for filing a potential medical malpractice lawsuit.
The petition names healthcare providers at Morton Plant Hospital, where Hogan was pronounced dead, and Tampa General Hospital.
Hogan, whose real name was Terry Bollea, died on July 24th at age 71 at his Clearwater home.
The Florida District Six Medical Examiner concluded that he suffered a heart attack, listing his death as “natural.”
Hogan also had a history of atrial fibrillation, an irregular heartbeat, and leukemia.
Police have confirmed they are investigating the circumstances surrounding Hogan’s death.
The Clearwater Police Department described the case as “unique” and said detectives have interviewed multiple witnesses and reviewed medical records from several healthcare providers.
Investigators continue to work closely with Hogan’s family.
No healthcare provider has been accused of wrongdoing, but the court filing indicates the family is exploring the possibility of malpractice.
An occupational therapist who treated Hogan before his death allegedly raised concerns about complications from a recent surgery that may have affected his breathing.
The family’s legal action highlights ongoing scrutiny of the medical care Hogan received in the days leading up to his death.
Authorities and investigators continue to gather information to determine whether any professional negligence occurred.
