Nicole Valarde, a firefighter and paramedic in Pompano Beach, had quite a story to tell when she returned from a call the other day. Nicole was greeted back at the fire station by a little 5-month old Terrier-mix with severe burns from his neck all the way down his back.
Nicole brought the abandoned pup inside and cleaned him up and fed him before bringing him to the vet for further treatment. The burns were so bad that the dog had to be sedated for his exam and had to undergo surgery to treat the wounds. The vet who treated him said it looked like somebody tried to kill him with harsh chemicals or scalding water.
However, the puppy, now known as Scruffy, is expected to make a full recovery with only a bald patch on his back from the incident. Scruffy has also now found his fur-ever home with Nicole.
"He’ll have a bald spot, but as long as he’s happy and healthy, I’m happy.” -Nicole Valarde
A GoFundMe page has been set up to assist with Scruffy's medical expenses, to donate click here.
