Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center are closely monitoring a newly formed tropical disturbance displaying signs of gradual development over the open Atlantic waters southwest of the Azores.
According to the latest meteorological advisories, environmental conditions could allow the system to slowly gain strength as it drifts across the ocean over the next several days.
As of the latest tracking data, the system remains disorganized but has shown a steady increase in convective activity. The National Hurricane Center has established the following official formation probabilities:
- 48-Hour Formation Chance: Low (20 percent)
- 7-Day Formation Chance: Low (30 percent)
Long-range computer spaghetti models indicate the system poses absolutely zero immediate threat to Florida or the United States mainland.
The low-pressure system is expected to remain over open waters for the foreseeable future. Meteorologists will continue to monitor upper-level wind shear patterns to determine if the system will develop into a named tropical depression.
