The USF Bulls (2-0, 1-0) defeated Army (1-1, 0-1) 28-24 on Saturday afternoon at West Point. With the win the Bulls began their conference schedule with a win.
The game was tied 14-14 at the end of the third quarter. Army scored the first ten points of the fourth quarter to build a 24-14 lead. The Bulls got back in it thanks to a Michael Van Buren 24-yard touchdown run with 3:13 to go in the fourth quarter.
The Bulls defense then forced a three-and-out that gave the offense a chance to tie or when the game. The Bulls drove down to Army 38-yard line before Army forced a fourth-and 6. The Bulls elected to go for the win instead of a tie and converted, when Michael Van Buren Jr hit Joshua Porter for a 38-yard touchdown to give the Bulls a 28-24 lead.
Moments later the Bulls defense forced a fumble to clinch the road win. Van Buren went 19-for-30 with 239 yards passing and two touchdowns threw the air without throwing an interception. He was also the team leader in rushing with another 45 yards on the ground, including two running touchdowns.
The Bulls now return home and will host Delaware State on September 19th. Kickoff between USF and Delaware State is scheduled for 7:00 PM on Saturday night at Raymond James Stadium.
