Amanda Shires is speaking publicly about her divorce from Jason Isbell for the first time.
Shires, 43, and Isbell, 46, split up after more than a decade of marriage. The two artists tied the knot in February 2013, and Isbell reportedly filed for divorce in December 2023. They share one child together, daughter Mercy, now 9. Isbell and Shires finalized their divorce in March, more than a year after the filing. Isbell previously spoke publicly about the divorce.
Shires opened up about the divorce in a new interview with Rolling Stone, which published on Tuesday (July 15), about her “revealing” upcoming album, Nobody’s Girl. She said in her interview: “The past two years of my life have made it to where I feel like I can talk about anything, at this point. I have always used music as a way to explain what’s going on in my life to myself. And it was a big transition to go from, you know, having been in a marriage for a long time and to suddenly find that I’m not. It takes a lot of learning and self-reflection and, for me, a lot of time to process. In the processing, the music came about, and most all of that was a really hard, bad time. There were some moments of joy, as there tends to be, but we never focus on those.”
Shires released “A Way It Goes” from her upcoming 13-track record. The full album is due to arrive on September 26.
