The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office is hosting a symposium next week to answer questions about how the agency is handling the illegal immigration crisis.
Sheriff Ric Bradshaw reiterates who they are targeting when it comes to helping the Trump administration's efforts.
"We're not looking to go after people that are here illegally that are not criminals and are not commiting crimes. That's not my job. My job is to get rid of the gang members, the cartel people, the drug dealers, the people that are in the neighborhoods that are bad people."
We asked the sheriff what would happen if ICE or Border Czar Tom Homan said PBSO needs to help round up illegal immigrants who are not what so-called "criminal illegals."
"We're not going to go on a round-up. Now if they do it and have people in custody and they need us to transport them, well then that's different. That's after the fact. But I'm not going to be part of this round-up."
He says he doesn't control Immigration and Customs Enforcement or ICE.
"The only thing we would do is if they call and say 'Hey, we have this person in custody and we need him transported to the county jail 'til we can get him transported to another facility'...then that's what I do."
Bradshaw says that happened recently where someone called to say they spotted a deputy picking someone up who was just walking across the street. He says that person was wanted by the feds and requested that the sheriff hold him until they could transfer him.
Bradshaw describes next Thursday's event as a "huge symposium."
"And we're inviting all citizen groups, anybody that has concerns, anybody that has community groups or leaderships to come there. And we may have 3 or 400 people, which is good."
The public is welcome at the Palm Beach Airport Hilton April 10th at 11 a.m.
