Reader’s Digest Reveals Finalists For Nicest Place In America

For the fourth year, “Readers Digest” is on the hunt for “The Nicest Place in America” and they’ve just released the 50 finalists for the title. The finalists were chosen after readers sent in a record 1,177 stories of hope about places they felt people deserved to be honored for their kindness and civility.

In connection with the search, “Readers Digest” released results of a survey in connection with “More In Common” which found some very positive results. Among them:

60% of Americans are feeling more proud of their local community.

While 64% say the nation has become more divided since the COVID-19 pandemic, 76% say their local community has not.

28% of folks have seen more acts of kindness in their communities.

80% of people say frontline workers, like doctors, nurses, grocery store staff and more, deserve praise for their actions during the crisis.

Even though we may be divided, 94% of people believe we need to treat each other with respect.

70% say the crisis has shown us that we are all fundamentally the same.

As for results of the mag’s “50 Nicest Places in America 2020: United In Kindness,” they include a photographer in Indiana who captured moving moments families during the pandemic, a roller derby in Iowa that dressed up in crazy costumes to bring joy during lockdown, a tattoo shop in Louisiana that became a medical supply shop and more.
