Reader’s Digest Reveals Finalists For Nicest Place In America

For the fourth year, β€œReaders Digest” is on the hunt for β€œThe Nicest Place in America” and they’ve just released the 50 finalists for the title. The finalists were chosen after readers sent in a record 1,177 stories of hope about places they felt people deserved to be honored for their kindness and civility.

In connection with the search, β€œReaders Digest” released results of a survey in connection with β€œMore In Common” which found some very positive results. Among them:

60% of Americans are feeling more proud of their local community.

While 64% say the nation has become more divided since the COVID-19 pandemic, 76% say their local community has not.

28% of folks have seen more acts of kindness in their communities.

80% of people say frontline workers, like doctors, nurses, grocery store staff and more, deserve praise for their actions during the crisis.

Even though we may be divided, 94% of people believe we need to treat each other with respect.

70% say the crisis has shown us that we are all fundamentally the same.

As for results of the mag’s β€œ50 Nicest Places in America 2020: United In Kindness,” they include a photographer in Indiana who captured moving moments families during the pandemic, a roller derby in Iowa that dressed up in crazy costumes to bring joy during lockdown, a tattoo shop in Louisiana that became a medical supply shop and more.
