St. Lucie County Reopening Beaches Tuesday

St. Lucie County is reopening its public beach accesses with restrictions to help continue to slow the spread of COVID-19, effective Tuesday, April 28 at 7 a.m.

St. Lucie County and Fort Pierce are reopening beaches for physical recreation including walking, jogging, fishing, surfing, swimming, snorkeling, collecting seashells, kayaking, paddleboarding or other activity provided that social distancing requirements are maintained.

The following restrictions will be in place at all public beach accesses in St. Lucie County:

  • Social or recreational groups of 10 or more persons are prohibited;
  • Persons using the beach shall practice social distancing by staying at least six feet away whenever practicable from another person;
  • Activities that do not maintain social distancing requirements, such as congregating, partying, picnicking, camping, volleyball, Frisbee, football or other organized group activities are strongly discouraged;
  • No coolers, tents, blankets, umbrellas, beach chairs or sunbathing are allowed.
  • Equipment supporting people with disabilities is allowed.

St. Lucie County’s Marine Safety Division encourages all residents and visitors to swim at lifeguarded beaches. Pepper Park Beach, 3302 North A1A, North Hutchinson Island, and Waveland Beach, 10350 South Ocean Drive, South Hutchinson Island, have lifeguards on duty from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. St. Lucie County’s Marine Safety provides coverage at South Beach Park, 800 South Ocean Drive, on Saturdays and Sundays.

Fort Pierce Beach immediately south of the jetty remains closed due to the sand renourisment project, which is expected to last until the end of May.

Beaches will remain open daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., as long as social distancing requirements are followed. For updated daily beach conditions, please call the St. Lucie County Beach Conditions Hotline at 772-462-1421 after 10:30 a.m.
