Kenny Rogers Has Died At 81

Country legend Kenny Rogers has died at the age of 81-years-old. His incredible career in music and on the screen spanned six decades, and included hits like "The Gambler," "Lucille," "Lady," and his duet with Dolly Parton, "Islands in the Stream." He also starred in many TV movies, including several based on "The Gambler."

In a post on the singer's Twitter account, the family announced his death saying, "The Rogers family is sad to announce that Kenny Rogers passed away last night at 10:25PM at the age of 81. Rogers passed away peacefully at home from natural causes under the care of hospice and surrounded by his family. Kenny Rogers left an indelible mark on the history of American music."

The Hall of Famer surprised many in 2000 when his song "Buy Me A Rose" on his own small independent record label "Dreamcatcher" became a smash #1 hit. It would be his first #1 song since 1987. He was 61 when the song hit the top of the chart.

In addition to his TV credits, Rogers was the star of the 1982 feature film Six Pack. In the movie, he played the role of Brewster Baker, a race car driver who picks up a group of orphans to be his pit crew/ The film gave us the hit "Love With Turn You Around."

He was also a co-founder of the restaurant chain Kenny Rogers' Roasters in collaboration with a former Kentucky Fried Chicken CEO.
