It’s not always easy for parents of children in wheelchairs to come up with creative Halloween costumes to incorporate them, but thanks to an Oregon-based nonprofit, little Riley Marquis is going to be all set for trick-or-treating. The five-year-old New Hampshire girl just got a custom pink Minnie Mouse car, designed to fit right over her wheelchair, creating a one-of-a-kind costume.
The Minnie car comes courtesy of the nonprofit Magic Wheelchair and volunteer Bonnie Regan, who built the car for Riley. The group was started by a dad who has kids who use wheelchairs and his idea has inspired volunteers like Regan to put their time and talent into making Halloween magical for children in wheelchairs.
"It's awesome because it doesn't make the wheelchair like a tool,” says Jason Marquis, Riley’s father. “It's actually something that's fun for her to do."
