Nowhere is it written that the pre-game coin toss is mandatory.
In Illinois, a couple of high school teams squared off, with something different in mind to determine the kickoff. The senior sons of coaches for the Elmwood-Brimfield and Lewiston met at mid-field, and decided things with a best two-out-of-three bout of “Rock, Paper, Scissors.” Elmwood-Brimfield ended up winning the rubber-match with the strategic play of paper over rock…and then the game commenced!
