Rare Gold Coin Auctions For More Than $18M

Sports trading cards may be all the rage right now, but they don’t hold a candle to a 1933 Double Eagle Coin.

The gold U.S. coin, which is actually a prototype as it was never actually minted by the United States Treasury, was just sold at auction for $18.8 million.

This was to be the last U.S. gold coin “intended for circulation,” but that never happened. Instead, it is now one of “the most coveted coins in the world.”
