Congratulations to Eddie Murphy and the production crew of “Coming 2 America.” The debut of the highly anticipated sequel scored the top opening weekend of any film launching on a streaming service in the past year.
The film, which debuted on Amazon Prime, beat out both Amazon’s “The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run” and Disney Plus’ “Raya and the Last Dragon” for the weekend.
In addition, it was a bigger opening than “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm,” which came out in October on Amazon; and “Wonder Woman 1984” which dropped on HBO Max on Christmas Day.
