Twins Are High School’s Valedictorian & Salutatorian

A set of twin sisters who are only minutes apart in age are also only one one-hundredth of a point apart in GPA. The high achieving Texas teens graduated first and second in their class this year. Judith Briseño earned a 3.95 GPA and was named valedictorian of Mesquite High School in Texas and her twin sister, Janette, achieved a 3.94 and is the salutatorian.

Along with their academic success, the 17-year-olds were involved in the same extracurricular activities, including junior ROTC, National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, and Senior Leaders. The sisters say they’ve been trying since their freshman year to be at the top of their class and they competed with each other, but it was all “healthy and friendly.”

Judith and Janette are incredibly close, but there are no hard feelings about who came in first. “There’s no bitterness,” Janette says. “I’m just happy to be up here with her.” Both of them will be attending Texas A&M University this fall and they both also hope to have careers in medicine.
