Our state is done with people who pretend to have a service animal in order to get their pets approved by landlords.
If a landlord here in Florida doesn't want to rent out their home to someone with a dog or cat or any other kind of pet, they have no option but to allow that pet if its a service animal. Apparently that's exactly what many people claim, but Florida is cracking down. Now landlords here in the Sunshine State wouldn't be able to prohibit emotional support animals, but those who falsely claim to need one could be going to jail under a bill that was unanimously passed by the Senate.
The new bill will create stiff penalties of up to 60 days and jail and a $500 fine for people who falsely claim to need the animals in order to move their pets into a home or apartment where they wouldn't otherwise be allowed.
Sounds like a smart law to me!
