Canadian Has Heart Attack Here In Florida, Is Saved By Man From Hometown

A man from Canada who had a heart attack while on vacation in Florida was lucky to be saved by a stranger nearby. And it turns out, that stranger who saved his life is from the same town in Canada he is. Tom Reddon was out for a jog with his buddy in Indian Rocks Beach when he suddenly collapsed in the middle of their run.

Some women nearby called 911 and asked some men walking by if they knew CPR and one of them, Sandy MacNeill, said he did. He did compressions and mouth-to-mouth on Reddon until emergency crews arrived. They used a defibrillator on site and rushed Reddon to the hospital, where surgery and two stents saved him. Later, MacNeill made the connection that the man he used his CPR training on for the first time was actually from Fredericton, the same town in New Brunswick where he is from.

Now Reddon is grateful to be alive and for the life-saving efforts of the stranger from his hometown. “I think we’ll get together when we get back in Fredericton over a craft beer or two and talk about life and stuff,” he says of MacNeill. But MacNeill has a better idea and says, “I think maybe we should all meet at a CPR course.”
