Boy Calls 911 After Getting Snow Pants For Christmas

There were probably a lot of little kids around the world who didn’t get exactly what they’d hoped for under the tree this Christmas, but a seven-year-old boy in Canada took his complaint straight to the cops. Police say the kid called 911 on Christmas to report that he got some snow pants as a present and they were “not appreciated.”

Ontario Provincial Police Sergeant Kerry Schmidt tweeted about the call and used the incident as a teaching moment about the importance of treating 911 seriously.

“Parents or caregivers need to make sure their children understand the consequences of calling 911 and what constitutes an emergency,” Schmidt said in an interview. “Kids need to realize that calling 911 is critical and serious.”

The officer explains that the police department doesn’t want to waste resources following up on calls that are not an emergency. He also points out that calling 911 for something that’s not an emergency takes away resources from other calls that could be real emergencies. As for what happened to the disappointed snow pants recipient, Schmidt says the boy was “given a talking to.” Let’s just hope that stunt doesn’t land him on the naughty list for next year.
