For 42 years, a 70-something California man named John commuted 40 minutes to his job, all the while earning minimum wage. Despite the long commute and small salary, John really loved his job. So much so that he really didn't want to retire.
But the time came for John to hang it up. When John clocked out for the finaly time--after 42 years of service--all he got from his unnamed company was a BBQ with his coworkers along with a certificate of appreciation.
That's it.
The lack of fanfare upset his co-worker, Soniah, who turned to social media to voice her disgust, writing, "The company only threw him a BBQ and gave him a certificate... No bonus, just a BBQ and certificate. Thank you, John, for your loyalty."
Her video quickly went viral, and soon a GoFundMe that Soniah had set up to help John had raised over $36-thousand for the long-time employee!
In an update to the crowdfund page, Soniah thanks all the supporters and says she’s officially shutting it down and making sure that John gets every penny of the donations.
