Last week it was beautiful on Lake Powell in Utah. That's why Jake Cahoon and his wife Courtney took the boat out. They wanted to enjoy the last few days of summer out west. But that all changed when they heard a loud boom.
That loud sound was the motor on a nearby houseboat exploding. And that boat was quickly engulfed in flames.
On the burning boat were 25 people. Among them, seven children and a two-month-old baby! As the people jumped overboard in order to avoid the fire, the Cahoons sprang into action. They got as close as they could to fire and helped 14 of the boaters onto their vessel. The remaining passengers were picked up by another boater and a ranger boat.
It's absolutely remarkable that no one was injured in the incident, but the houseboat later sank. The Cahoons were thankful that they were able to help, saying “After it all ended and we all went back to our houseboat, we were teary-eyed and just like grateful everyone was OK.”
