As wel all know, baby name trends come and go. As we have seen, their popularity tends to follow something known as the “hundred-year rule.” Names that are popular now get used a lot, then kinda fall out of favor, and then it takes around 100 years for them to start being used again. Vintage names like Frances, Evelyn and Ruby could just as easily be your great grandmother, and now, your kid’s preschool classmate!
What’s new about the 100-year-rule nowadays is that people are using traditionally male vintage names for baby girls. These names that are termed “grandpa names” apparently feel fresh when used for a girl and more parents are opting for them.
As usual, celebrities are all over this trend, like Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively who named one of their daughters James, while Rebecca Romijn and Jerry O’Connell chose Charlie for their little girl.
The grandpa baby name trend is great for those who want to name a daughter after a male relative. And you can always spell it with an “ie” instead of a “y” or pair it with a very feminine middle name to soften it. Some popular grandpa names for girls include:
- Frankie
- Emmett
- Elliott
- Gene
- Max
- Ollie
- Francis
- Lenny
- Jude
- Theo
- Jesse
