The Martin County Sheriff's Office partnered with utility workers in Jensen Beach to rescue eggs that were discovered atop a power pole. They found that the eggs belong to a screech owl.
Workers from Pike Electric contacted the sheriff's Animal Services division as soon as they discovered the screech owl nest at the top of an old utility pole that was scheduled for replacement.
Animal Services deputies teamed up with the utility employees to devise a plan so that they could safely relocate the eggs so the new pole could be installed.
Workers decided to install a birdhouse on top of the new pole, even making sure the house was pointing in the same direction as the nest from the old pole.
Then, workers and deputies carefully moved the owl's nest from the old pole to it's new birdhouse.
"The old pole is gone, the nest was not compromised, and Jensen Beach should soon be home to some new baby owls," the Martin County Sheriff's Office said on Facebook.
