21-year-old Kimberly Woods, grew up with a heart condition that causes her heart muscle to thicken over time. Her mother and brother have also dealt with this condition. She’s learned to live with it over the last 9 years, but recently things turned bad for her. Kimberly's health was deteriorating, and she was at constant risk of death. To survive, she would need a heart transplant which, she was told, could take years. Her fiance, Anthony Woods, was committed to their relationship and the couple decided that they wanted to get married. A date was picked in October of 2021, but four days before the ceremony, Kimberly received a phone call that a heart was ready for transplant right away.
Uncertain what the future would bring for them, the couple decided to move their wedding up — to that day. So in a simple ceremony, they said “I do” in front of their family and closest friends who were available at the last minute. Then they got in the car and drove four hours to the Cleveland Clinic so Kimberly could get her new heart.
The surgery was a success and she’s is expected to live a long life. The newlyweds plan to do some traveling before they settle down and start a family.
