A retired police officer from Alabama who needed a kidney transplant has found a donor in an unexpected person: a woman he had thrown in jail several times.
Terrell Potter had locked up Jocelynn James a few times in Alabama during a difficult time in her life when she battled an drug addiction. She actually credits him with helping to turn her life around and she’s now been clean sober for years.
When she found out the retired Potter needed a kidney donor, she rushed to help him. And it turns out, wouldn't you know, she was a perfect match. The two had a successful transplant in July and they’re both doing well.
“If you asked me 100 names of who may give me a kidney, her name would have not been on the list,” Potter says. “It’s just unbelievable that she was willing to do that.”
