A few weeks ago, you may have heard about a massive Twitter hack that saw the accounts of former President Barack Obama, Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos and others compromised and passing along a pitch for a Bitcoin scam.
Now, federal officials say they have their hacker...and that it’s a kid. A Tampa teen is in jail and facing 30 felony charges, and has been identified as 17-year-old Graham Clark. He was arrested Friday at his Tampa apartment, having allegedly netted about $100-grand in Bitcoin.
"There is a false belief within the criminal hacker community that attacks like the Twitter hack can be perpetrated anonymously and without consequence," says U.S. Attorney David Anderson. "Today's charging announcement demonstrates that the elation of nefarious hacking into a secure environment for fun or profit will be short-lived."
Clark isn’t alone. The Department of Justice (DOJ) says they've snagged two others in connection with the hack: 19-year-old Mason Sheppard of the U.K. and 22-year-old Nima Fazeli of Orlando.
