Verne Troyer has died. According to his Instagram page, the 49-year-old passed away on Saturday. While no cause of death was given, we told you earlier this month that he was hospitalized for possible alcohol poisoning. More recent reports had him on life support.
In addition, the statement on the “Austin Powers” star’s page said, “Over the years [Verne’s] struggled and won, struggled and won, struggled and fought some more, but unfortunately this time was too much.” Prior to being hospitalized, the police showed up at his house because he was drunk and suicidal. He also spent time in rehab a year ago.
Achondroplasia dwarfism was to blame for Verne’s height – two feet, eight inches. In addition to “Austin Powers,” Verne also appeared in “The Love Guru,” “Bubble Boy,” and “Postal.”
Mike Myers, Verne’s “Austin Powers” co-star, has released a statement calling him the consummate professional and a beacon of positivity. He added, “It is a sad day, but I hope he is in a better place. He will be greatly missed.”
