A 35-foot catamaran caught fire this morning in Vero Beach. Somehow, the boat, with no one on board, got loose from where an island where it was tethered and wandered out into the open waters. As it did, it struck a power line which sparked a fire.
Reporter Jon Shainman of WPTV reported on Twitter that the boat caught fire and later exploded. His video is below.
The link below from TCPalm featured footage from a cell phone of the burning boat out in the open water, near the 17th Street bridge in Vero Beach. Due to the fire near the transmission lines, power was shut off to the island as a precautionary matter.
