No More Calls Being Accepted For Appointments At New Virus Testing Site

A new drive-thru coronavirus test site in West Palm Beach is not taking any more calls after booking nearly 2,000 appointments through Saturday.

Health Care District of Palm Beach County CEO Darcy Davis says they hope to reopen the phone lines on Thursday morning at 8 a.m., if they can acquire additional test kits from the state. If that happens, appointments would be set for Monday.

They want to average about 500 tests per day at the site at the Ballpark of the Palm Beaches, the spring training home of the Houston Astros and Washington Nationals.

"We have a committment that they will continue to provide us additional kits as necessary. So I'm hopeful that working through Emergency Management and the state that they will continue to provide those."

Folks calling the number set up by the district say the line kept bumping them off on Wednesday morning.

A spokeswoman says they received around 95,000 calls between 8 and 9 a.m.

The district first started taking calls for the site on Monday and received over 300,000 of them.
